[i]book_bitch posting in [i]volkswagens: Sadface D:

So... I had a little bit of an adventure last Friday. It was snowing, I had to go to the bank, and now I'm kicking myself for not waiting one more effin' hour to go out...

I actually like that picture a lot, because looking down from that angle with a crappy cell phone camera makes the damage not look as bad. :)

Anyway, both the ABS and years of my father's intense defensive driving lessons failed me as my Rabbit slid through two lanes of traffic and directly into an old utility van. Luckily not many people were out, so the roads were fairly clear, and the van and I could see what was going on and could kind of brace for impact. Go figure, the van got a scratch and a slightly dented rim, I got my left front end destroyed.

As a testament to VW's toughness, the car is still totally drive-able (just wicked ugly). A few years ago I was rear-ended by a Jeep and my rear bumper got scratched (but the Jeep limped away with a crushed fender). So I was kind of surprised by how much my car crunched.

Anyway, I thought I'd share what $1800 worth of front-end damage looks like with all of you. :) I had my insurance inspection today, so hopefully she'll be good as new soon.

[i]sir_vikks posting in [i]volkswagens: mkIV Jetta First Upgrade

I have a 2000 mkIV Jetta VR6. (I think it's the GLS, not the GLX.)
I've had it for about 2.5 years. It has nearly 150k miles and runs great in all weather. Bought it with 125k in Littleton, CO, with the help of my dad in Denver. I live in Lincoln, NE.

Over the past couple years I've had to clean the battery cable clamps, change a headlamp bulb and taillight bulbs.. Currently I have an issue with the parking brake freezing in cold weather, rear brake pads need replacing, windshield washer jets need de-clogging, and headlamp lenses may need 'sanding.'

Minor maintenance stuff aside, lately I've been thinking about a few parts changes/upgrades to my car.

Questions, Ideas… )
